The red and white cross block has y-seams (also called set-in seams)! It’s made from parallelograms and half square triangles. Pam gives tips for making those y-seams a little easier during assembly. The flying x block is made from squares and half square triangles, and its quadrants assemble just like a four-patch, making it an easier block.
