Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Blog Tour Road Rally: Volume 16, Day 5

Join the SOUVENIR HUNT to enter to win 1 of 3 Grand Prize Giveaways.

Today, the last day of our blog tour road rally; we are going on the last leg of the tour sampling of the designer blocks from Volume 16 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. It’s been a fun journey as we’ve visited more than 30 designers of blocks and we have 10 more to see today. We’ve been busy at the Quiltmaker office giving away the daily prizes and we’re excited about the grand prize giveaways.

If you’ve not been a part of our road rally block tour before today, be sure to visit Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 to see all the previous blocks.

Are you ready? Here we go on Day 5!

Please, don’t bypass the block stops! With each of the blocks we’re giving you a link to the designers’ blog posts so you can learn more about the inspiration behind their block design, examples of quilt designs using the blocks and a lot more. Some designers will give you a chance to win prizes from their blog site; some are giving you an answer to one of the daily questions so you can enter the drawing for one of the grand prize giveaways at the end of the week.

Travel with your copy of Volume 16 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks. It’s available on newsstands now, or you can download a copy from The Quilting Company by clicking here. Or order a print version here.

Today is the DAY! Join the last day of the Souvenir Hunt as you take a block stop at each of the day’s designer blog sites for a chance at a grand prize. Winners will be announced on November 20th. Go to Day 1 of the Rally to get the details about participating. If you haven’t toured each day this week, you can still join us! We’ll give you the details to tell us about the souvenirs you’ve collected and submit your entry for a grand prize after we’ve toured the rest of the blocks today.

ARE YOU READY?
Let’s get on the road for our 5th day of travel.
Here are the souvenirs you should look for today.

100-blocks-day-5-block-averillBlock #1553
Designed by: Janice Averill, Iris Quilts & Dyed Fabrics
http://www.janiceaverill.com/blog

Crossroads Pyramids is made with just three colors and lots of Flying Geese. Janice’s brown color scheme would make a masculine quilt or perhaps a good quilt for the fall. But this block would be equally beautiful in bright colors, as well as in solids or prints.

Designed by: Kathie Beltz, Kathie Beltz Quilt Designs
kathiebeltz.com/blocktourroadrally

Dainty Flying Geese swoop across the Skyway block. Kathie made her monochromatic block a very pale blue background and several shades of blue for the geese, giving it a calm and restful look.

100-blocks-day-5-block-dillardBlock #1562
Designed by: Tina Dillard, Quilting Affection Designs
quiltingaffection.blogspot.com

Tina’s Double X is a great way to show off pretty batiks like the ones she used from Island Batik. Make just four blocks for a table topper or wall hanging or maybe a bed-sized quilt suits your fancy.

100-blocks-day-5-block-dudekBlock #1563
Designed by: Patty Dudek, Elm Street Quilts
http://www.elmstreetquilts.com

With triangles placed at random across the surface of the block, Scattered Triangles has all sorts of potential what an awesome block. Patty used Bella Solids from Moda Fabrics. You could make a quilt using just two colors as Patty did or you could make it scrappy.

100-blocks-day-5-block-gempesawBlock #1568
Designed by: Gina Gempesaw, Gem Hill Quilts

Whirlybird is an exciting block that will make a stunning quilt. Gina selected the Harmony collection by Quilting Treasures for her fabric. Her clever design creates another set of pinwheels when the blocks are set together.

100-blocks-day-5-block-hayes-tBlock #1535
Designed by: Tiffany Hayes, Needle in a Hayes Stack
needleinahayesstack.blogspot.com

Tiffany made her block with Me & You batiks by Hoffman California International Fabrics. The beautiful crisp points of Icicle Burst are easy to achieve with foundation piecing.

100-blocks-day-5-block-hunterBlock #1572
Designed by: Bonnie Hunter, Quiltville

Bonnie’s Grayson County block is striking with her purple, lime green and orange color combination. Don’t you wonder how she decided on that name?

100-blocks-day-5-block-shafferBlock #1586
Designed by: Jen Shaffer, Patterns by Jen
patternsbyjen.blogspot.com/

Jen’s Cartwheel creates movement visually. She used Cirrus Solids from Cloud 9 Fabrics. There is lots of opportunity for beautiful quilting in the negative space in this block.

100-blocks-day-5-block-starleyBlock #1590
Designed by: Sandra Starley, Textile Time Travels
utahquiltappraiser.blogspot.com/

Sandra’s use of several black-and-white prints in Hashtag gives her block lots of appeal. Pair the black-and-white with your favorite color for a show-stopping quilt.

100-blocks-day-5-block-theriaultBlock #1593
Designed by: Elaine Theriault
crazyquilteronabike.blogspot.com

Any Which Way is such a fun block. Elaine pieced it with Colorworks by Deborah Edwards for Northcott Fabrics. Can you imagine the design possibilities you could have just by rotating the blocks?

Whew! We’ve made it to the end of our 5th day’s journey.
