McCall’s Quilting March/April and May/June 2024 Print Edition

In our Spring double issue of McCall’s Quilting, we’re paying homage to the Art Deco aesthetic that has been inspiring artists for a century now. Introduced into the public consciousness the 1920s, the modern, geometric trend eventually came to dominate almost every area of design, infusing housewares, architecture, and fashion with sleek silhouettes, strong lines, symmetry, and dynamic details that, despite their dramatic flair, could be mass-produced for eager consumers. We’re looking to explore and celebrate Art Deco’s enduring allure in the issue’s theme, Deco Décor. We’ll showcase quilts and quilted home décor items that exude an elegant Art Deco look, with bold geometric patterns, elongated and arched elements, triangles and trapezoids, luxurious metallic accents, strong and shocking colors, and deceptive simplicity.

In tandem with Deco Décor inspiration, we’re looking to celebrate Spring in Style, our secondary, supporting theme. Art Deco designers often mined the natural world for inspiration then interpreted the motifs with stylized, simplified symmetry; think streamlined compositions inspired by natural forms and using lively color and prints to bring additional interest to geometric patchwork to create a super stylish spring.
