This 12” quilt block has the evocative name ‘Lady of the Lake.’ Its 2-tone color scheme is adaptable, and the techniques used are simple… Although the pieced frame of the block introduces a lot of seams, which can take some management!

Cutting Instructions:

Blue
1 square 8 7/8” x 8 7/8″, cut diagonally to make 2 half-square triangles (only 1 triangle needed for square)
10 squares 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″
Black
1 square 8 7/8″ x 8 7/8″, cut diagonally to make 2 half-square triangles (only 1 triangle needed for square) Piece 2A
10 squares 2 7/8″ x 2 7/8″

Assembly Instructions:

Piecing the block

1

On wrong side of dark blue fabric, draw diagonal line with the marking tool of your choice. Sew 1/4″ seam on each side of marked line; cut apart on marked line. Press open to make pieced squares (Diagram I). Make 20.

2

Using Diagrams II as a guide, make one pieced-square center unit.

3

Referring to Assembly Diagram, sew units together to make block.
