McCall’s Quick Quilts April/May 2019
Up your game I grew up in a family that loves to play games. As a young child, I can remember many game nights with my family that included card games, board games, dominoes, and marbles. As I reached my tweener years, the first video gaming systems were being developed. I spent hours with my dad just trying to “get to the next level” of whatever game we were engrossed in at the moment. Whenever we went out to eat (usually fast food pizza) my brother and I would spend all of my parent’s quarters on arcade games in the restaurant. Games are a great way to have fun and to bring your family and friends together for some friendly competition.
In this issue of Quick Quilts, we have a collection of quilt designs that are inspired by games. Abaci is an easy strip-pieced quilt with circle appliqués reminiscent of an old-school counting machine while Muggins has more complex piecing and a bevy of appliqués in a rainbow of colors on the dominoes. Bejeweled brings to mind the jewels in arcade games while Level Up is a wonderfully simple design that showcases an arcade-themed print. Marbles is a show-stopping star quilt that stirs up memories of playing marble board games as a child.
