My First Quilt | Sara Gallegos | Runtime (10 min)

Sara usually makes bright, modern-print fabrics quilts, but in this episode she explores a civil war inspired quilt pattern with traditional prints. It’s scrappy and involves a lot of miniature star blocks. Sara demonstrates making the block, giving pointers for things to watch out for both with these unit types and this size of blocks. Once the star blocks are created, it’s time to add frames to them. To keep some consistency to the scrappiness, Sara used only two fabrics for those frames. Then the framed blocks go on point, and Sara shows how to add the setting triangles necessary for finishing the quilt top.
