Make a quilt that is a family photo album! Host Sara Gallegos demonstrates working with photo transfer fabric, giving you tips on how to frame, crop, and print photos. Her Star of the Family quilt features quilt blocks in two sizes to incorporate different photos. You’ll get advice on fabric selection, patchwork techniques, and how to quilt the final design!

Bonus! Picking Your Palette for a Photo Quilt

Choosing the palette for a photo-driven quilt was, Sara said, the most challenging part. The 1970s-era photos all had a sepia-tinge, and the clothes in that era skewed toward burgundy and rust. The fabrics left Sara feeling a bit uninspired, but her mom had good advice: “Instead of focusing on the fabrics matching the picture, just make a pretty quilt that has pictures in it.” Sara selected an aqua print with a watercolor brushstroke as a base that she knew her mom would love, and then the rest of it came together naturally.
