The Double Windmill quilt block adds dynamic movement to any quilt! The quilt block requires a partial seam—a handy technique to add to your quilter’s skillset. Use three colors, four colors, or five, but make sure you give this 10” quilt block a go!
Cutting Instructions (cut in order listed):
- ⛝ = cut in half twice diagonally
- ⧅ = cut in half diagonally
Light green
- 1 square 4 ¾” x 4 ¾” ⛝
Dark Green
- 2 squares 4 ⅝” x 4 ⅝” ⧅
Black print
- 1 square 4 ¾” x 4 ¾” ⛝
- One strip 2 ¼” x 15”. From this strip, subcut 4 Template A (Template A can be round HERE)
Green-and-pink print
- 2 square 4 ⅜” x 4 ⅜” ⧅
Focal print
- 1 square 2 ¼” x 2 ¼”
Piecing the Block:

Referring to Diagram I, join light green 4 ¾” quarter-square triangle, black print 4 ¾” quarter-square triangle and green-and-pink 4 ⅜” half-square triangle to make a pieced square. Make 4.

Referring to Diagram II, join black print template A to the green-and-pink side of pieced square to make a unit. Make 4.

Referring to Diagram III, match raw edge of unit to raw edge of focal print 2 ¼” square and join, stopping stitching as indicated by the dot. Matching ends and working clockwise, join matching units to remaining sides of focal print square. Complete the partial seam on the first side. Add 4 matching dark green 4 ⅝” half- square triangles to make Double Windmill block.
