Pam Boswell incorporated traditional stars and stripes into a block that when placed in a specific layout, creates an interesting spin on the traditional in her latest pattern, American Vintage. This quilt looks complicated, but it’s not. It’s made with one simple block that combines square patches and half-square triangles. The block is rotated throughout the quilt top to create the overall pattern. If your feeling adventurous, try re-arranging the blocks after you’ve made them and see what other quilt designs you can create. This quilt is 64 x 64” when complete.

Designer Profile:

I am a self-taught seamstress and quilter with a passion for creating beautiful works of art. As of October 2018, I will have been married to my high school sweetheart for 25 years. I have two children, a daughter age 22 and a son, age 17. My family has always been very supportive. My kids volunteering, “My momma can make that” has prompted me to work outside of my comfort zone and learn new skills to complete the variety of projects that they have volunteered me for.

I have sewn and crafted since I was a child and have dabbled in quilting over the years. In the spring of 2016 I purchased what I thought was a bundle of fabric from a yard sale. It turned out to be a couple of completed quilt blocks and pieces cut for several more. I anxiously figured out how to put the pieces together and used them to make a pattern for additional blocks to finish a beautiful quilt. I realized then that I COULD quilt and I COULD turn my sketches into patterns. I began researching quilt patterns, quilting techniques, watching YouTube videos and spending time at my mother-in-law’s “sew house” with several of her quilting friends, absorbing as much knowledge as possible. The last year and a half has been a whirlwind learning experience and I am thoroughly enjoying every moment. I do wish I could thank the person that bundled up her unfinished project and passed it on to me. Being new to quilting and quilt design, I learn something new each day and am delighted to share my new-found love of quilting with others.
